Seabed 2030

Ocean’s cover more than 70% of the Earth’s surface. However, only 20% of it has ever been mapped. Mapping the seafloor is a vital component to understanding circulation, tides, tsunami forecasting and environmental change, as well as protecting underwater resources. Seabed 2030 is a collaborative project between GEBCO and the Nippon Foundation with the aim of facilitating the complete mapping of the global ocean floor by the year 2030. The Circum-Pacific Council is pleased to support this crucial international collaboration that will combine all existing data and evaluate the gaps in seafloor data.
